Portfolio / Web Survey Tool

Web Survey Tool

Design Challenge

Create the front-end design for a web survey tool consisting of a JSP Tag library that is easy enough to use for Social Scientists and other non-programmers while maintaining the complex survey functionality of the original system.

Solution

This prototype design presents a clear and uncomplicated interface that hides the JSP tags behind the survey interface and provides a drag and drop interaction for survey creation and editing. Every user we observed used example surveys as templates for question types and layout. In our design, we provide a question library that can be shared with others on a server along with HTML survey templates.

We also observed that often, users would draft the questions in one system and then hand off the second step of creating the survey in JSP to someone else. By providing a consolidated survey generation preview environment in a WYSIWYG, the survey is displayed for immediate feedback that eliminates the dual roles of survey creator and editor.
